Media Management

This multi-part course will introduce you to the basics of working with media files -- digital video, photography and audio. Each class runs about 90 minutes and is a combination of instruction and Q&A.

Media Management 1: Digital Camera Basics moving and managing files
In this section, we introduce users to best practices for managing digital images. We discuss cables, card readers, bluetooth and other methods of moving images plus best practices for folder managment and some of the photo management software available to add value to digital photo collections. We will also talk about photo sharing online -- Picasa, Flickr, Facebook and other services. Students should bring their camera to the class (point and shoot, DSLR, or cameraphone) and its manual.

Media Management 2: Introduction to Photo Editing
From red-eye removal to cropping and merging, we'll discuss some of the most useful editing techniques for the beginner. We will also talk about some of the many apps available that can add fun effects to your photos for sharing with friends and family.

Media Management 3: Video Camera basics, moving and managing files.
In this section, we introduce users to best practices for managing digital video. We discuss cables, card readers, bluetooth and other methods of moving images plus best practices for folder managment and some of the software available to add value to digital video collections. We will also talk about video sharing online -- YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook and other services. Students should bring their digital video camera to the class.
Media Management 4: Introduction to Video Editing
Whether you want to trim your video or join several together or add an audio track, we will walk you through some of the basics using standard video editing software.
Media Management 5: Audio File Management
Whether you use iTunes or another software package, this class offers tips, tricks, and best practices for managing audio files. We will walk you through ripping CDs (moving music from CD to computer), synching your audio player, and how to find free, legal audio files online.

Note: There are no pre-requisites; these classes are independent of each other & students can pick and choose which parts meet their needs.
