Drupal updates come fast and furious. Drupal is a complex beast. The most recent release is Drupal 6.22 (http://drupal.org/node/1168950). I caught wind that site owners are being charged THREE HOURS labour for an exercise that takes approximately 5 minutes. I just prepped a core-code-only install of Drupal 6.22. I have pushed it onto client's install of Drupal 6.x and spent some time testing each new body of code. It works like a charm in every case.
If you don't want to spend more than $300, you are welcome to download my code and ftp it into place:
- Make sure you have a Drupal 6.x install. To check, login and go to http://[YOUR WEB SITE DOMAIN]/admin/reports/status). If it has a Drupal line with a number between 6.01 and 6.21 you have a valid install.
- Do a back-up of the database. If your web host doesn't have an easy to use back-up function, we have a good ISP for you to host your site at: click here.
- Download the ZIP file to your desktop and unzip it.
- Do a back-up of your current site install files.
- FTP the new Drupal 6.22 files and directories to your website.
- Upload all of the files from this unzipped directory into place.
- This should leave your configuration files (in the /sites/ directory).
- This should leave your add-on modules (also in the /sites/ directory).
- This should leave your uploaded files (usually sitting in your /files/ directory) untouched.
