If you open the basic plugins page for Wordpress, “popular tags” turn up over 800 plugins for images and another 675 for image -- 1400 plugins? Doesn’t Wordpress have built-in gallery capacity? (Yes it does!)
Extending Wordpress from the out-of-the-box install can make a person crazy -- it’s as though an aisle of cereal weren’t enough so the supermarket offers an entire floor of choice. While we can’t stop developers from constantly re-inventing the wheel, we can at least help beginner and intermediate users find those plugins that are stable, well-supported and just plain work.
This session will look at not only image and gallery plugins but also video and audio plugins for your media-rich Wordpress site. We will discuss how to read the details of the plugin page and to determine how much weight to give a rating. We’ll also discuss if there are cases where using a plugin isn’t the best way to go: when embedding from major platforms is sufficient and when it’s time to hire a WordPress Developer to create a custom solution.
